Playgroup Tasmania acknowledges that we live, work and play on Aboriginal land, land of the palawa people of lutruwita (Tasmania). We pay our respects to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community, to elders past and present and to all those who continue caring for country, sharing stories and upholding rights.

Amirah

Playgroup Assistant

Amirah brings experience in psychiatric nursing to her Playgroup Tasmania role, giving her a strong understanding of mental health, emotional wellbeing and supportive communication.

She uses this knowledge to build trusting relationships, listen with empathy and recognise the emotional and developmental needs of both parents and children.

Amirah had her own positive experience with playgroups when she and her young family first moved to Tasmania. Going to playgroups gave her somewhere safe and welcoming to take her children while also providing connection, support and a sense of community when she really needed it.

"Playgroup provides an opportunity for parents to interact and create social connections, which can be incredibly challenging at this stage of life if you don't have established family/friendship networks around you."
