Playgroup Tasmania acknowledges that we live, work and play on Aboriginal land, land of the palawa people of lutruwita (Tasmania). We pay our respects to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community, to elders past and present and to all those who continue caring for country, sharing stories and upholding rights.

Community Playgroups – Parent & Volunteer Led

Playgroup Launceston Dec 2022 14

Community playgroups led by parents and volunteers usually meet once or twice a week for up to 2 hours in venues such as community centres, halls and parks. Playgroup Tasmania supports these groups to get started and to deliver quality experiences in safe, welcoming spaces.

Community playgroups are run by volunteers and do not have a paid leader or facilitator. These groups often collect a small fee to cover their running costs. All funds are reinvested into the playgroup.

As part of their registration, Parent & Volunteer Led Playgroups must participate in the Growing Together quality assurance process.

Volunteers who do not have children in their care at the playgroup can be involved through Playgroup Tasmania’s formal volunteer program.

"The volunteer who runs our Baby Village is fantastic – she’s so welcoming and designs fantastic learning experiences for babies and families."
